Final Exams

The Final Exams consist of a multiple choice portion, a performance portion, and an end of course test.

The End of Course Test (EOCT) dates are determined by the course itself. All End of Course Tests will take place over the time interval of May 1 to May 10, 2006. Performance Final dates are determined in the same manner, in that the course itself determines the day which the test will be taken, so, for example, all students will take their Language Arts Performance Final Exam on the same day.

The Multiple Choice portion of the Final Exam will be taken over the time interval of May 22 to May 24, 2006. All students will take the Exams for their first two classes on May 22, their second two on May 23, and the last two on May 24. Students will be released from school at 11:45 AM. There will be a 15 minute break between the two tests, in which Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits will be sold in the commons area for $2 a piece. Any seniors with an average of 90% or greater may be exempt from taking the Multiple Choice portion of the Exam in that class, but only for the spring semester. If they are being exempt from both classes for the day, it is not necessary for them to come to school that day.

Any students taking an Advanced Placement course will take the AP test in the time interval of May 1 to May 12, 2006. These tests are not held at the school, so AP students will be excused from school the day of their test(s). In the event that a student taking an AP test is absent on the day on a Performance Final due to the AP test, that student needs not make the Performance Final up at a later date.

GCPS teachers have written end-of-semester exams based on the AKS (Academic Knowledge and Skills) for each course taught. The examination consists of a performance section and a multiple-choice section. The exams are secure: therefore, students are not allowed to take their final exams early.

SENIOR EXAM EXEMPTION 2005-2006

If Seniors are Honor Graduates or have a 90% average or better in a class AND have not missed 5 days of school during the Spring Semester (not including 2 college visits)-they may exempt MULTIPLE CHOICE FINALS-but still need to take PERFORMANCE FINALS. If a senior is taking an Advanced Placement Exam on the day the Performance Final is given, the student may choose to make up the Performance Final or the student may choose to not take the final. The Senior Exemption Form must be completed for students exempting Multiple Choice Finals.

Any senior (not just students with Honor Graduate status or students with a 90% or better in a class) "may" exempt a Performance Final if that final is on a day the student has an Advanced Placement Exam.

If a student exempts a Performance Final, the Multiple Choice portion of the final grade is not increased to equal the full 20%. The Multiple Choice Exam would still equal 10, 12, 15% or etc. of the students' final grades.

Any student (not just Seniors with Honor Graduate status or Seniors with a 90% or better in a class) who has a Performance Final on the day of an AP Exam may choose to make up a Performance Final within five school days of missing the final (unless there are extenuating circumstances and then additional time needs to be granted).
